The top of the front page has the historic one column headlines announcing Lincoln's famous Emancipation Proclamation with: "Important Proclamation" "Emancipation of Slaves In The Rebellious States" "To Take Effect on the 1st of January, 1863". The text of the document is printed in its entirely, taking two-thirds of a column and signed at its conclusion: Abraham Lincoln (see). Great to have this notable document on the front page, as most newspaper appearances were on inside pages.
Also on the ftpg. is: "Negro Regiments In The Federal Service" plus other war-related reports. More war reporting on page 2 as well with the back page having a notable report headed: "Terrible Slaughter at Antietam" with several subheads (see).
Four pages, rejoined at the spine, great condition.
