ARMY AND NAVY JOURNAL, New York, Dec. 9, 1871
* Creation of the NRA, the National Rifle Association
Inside has half a column with a small heading: "National Rifle Association" which reports on one of its very first meeting, as the NRA was formally created Nov. 22. the article begins: "At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Rifle Association, held December 1, the secretary was directed to call the attention of the incorporators to the following extracts from the by-laws of the association..." And further on is: "A regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the association was held on Tuesday evening atr General Shaler's headquarters in Mercer St., Col. W. C. Church, vice president, in the chair..." with much more. Note that William C. Church was the editor of this newspaper.
Terrific to have a very early report on the NRA not only in a military newspaper but a newspaper edited by its Vice President.
Sixteen pages, a discrete archival mend to a previous page, very nice condition.
