April 12, 1968
CHICAGO DAILY DEFENDER, April 6-12, 1968
* Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. assassination
* 1st report w/ nice headline for display
* African-American title - very rare as such
This Chicago-based weekly newspaper was founded in 1905 by an African American for primarily African-American readers. As such, this report of the assassination of Martin Luther King is far more rare & desirable than if found in virtually any other newspaper in the country. And the headline is bold and very dramatic: "KING MURDERED ! " with other smaller heads on the front page: "Threats of Violence Hit City After News" "King's Slaying Termed Blow To Nonviolence". There is also a large photo of King on the front page.
Included are the pages with the King coverage, as it seems the previous owner disposed of the other leaves. Present are pages 1, 2, 15, 16, 17,18, 21, 22, 27, 28, 31 and 32. In very nice condition.
