THE NEW YORK TIMES, February 26, 1936
* February 26 Incident
* Attempted coup d'etat in Japan
* Imperial Japanese Army
The front page has a four column headline: "MILITARISTS ATTEMPT COUP IN JAPAN; TWO CABINET LEADERS ASSASSINATED; EMPEROR CALLS IN OSUMI, A LIBERAL" with many subheads. Loads of text continues inside with related pictorial.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 44 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Tear in the masthead near top left corner, otherwise very nice condition.
