October 10, 1936

THE NEW YORK TIMES, October 10, 1936.

* Hoover Dam begins transmitting electricity
* Los Angeles lit by Boulder Dam (Hoover Dam)

Page 5 has a two column heading: "Los Angeles Illuminated by Boulder Dam; 7,200,000,000 Candle Power Is Released" (see) First report coverage on Hoover beginning to transmit electricity to Los Angeles, California. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 36 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
