THE NEW YORK TIMES, June 5, 1942.

* Battle of Midway BEGINS
* Japanese Imperial vs. American Navy
* World War II original - WWII

The front page has a great banner headline announcing: "JAPANESE BATTLESHIP AND CARRIER DAMAGED, MANY PLANES SHOT DOWN IN RAID ON MIDWAY" with subheads. (see) More on page 2 with related map. 1st report coverage on the Battle of Midway. This key naval fight would turn the tables in favor of the United States vs. Japan. The Gettysburg of World War II ? Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Complete in 38 pages, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
