August 22, 1940

THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 22, 1940

* Leon Trotsky assassination
* Soviet Union Red Army founder
* Marxist Theorist

The front page has two column headings: "Trotsky Dies of His Wounds; Asks Revolution Go Forward" "Assassin Says He Broke With Victim After Exile Asked Him to Carry Out Acts of Sabotage in Russia" First report coverage continues on page 14 with photo of Trotsky. Lengthy text. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 40 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
