EVENING STANDARD, London, Aug. 15, 1945 The front page has an interesting reading: "First Full Story of The Surrender - Hirohito Tells His People 'We should have been Obliterated' " "THE ATOM BOMB DEFEATED US" "His Ministers Bowed and Silently Wept". Included is the text of Hirohito's address to his people explaining why Japan is surrendering.
A ftpg. inside has an extract from a Reuter message quoting Admiral Halsey: "Looks like the war is over. Cease firing, but if you see any enemy planes in the air shoot them down in a friendly fashion."
