LOS ANGELES TIMES, August 13, 1965
* Watts Riot w/ photos
* Neighborhood of L.A.
* Civil rights era original
A terrific front page covering this terrible chapter in the history of Los Angeles. Reporting on the Watts Riots with a banner headline: "7,000 IN NEW RIOTING; TROOPS ALERTED" with related subheads plus a photo showing demonstrators clinging to the sides of a moving troop train. Much more inside.
The Watts Riots was a race riot that took place in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles from August 11 to 17, 1965. The six-day unrest resulted in 34 deaths, 1,032 injuries, 3,438 arrests, and over $40 million in property damage. It was the most severe riot in the city's history until the Los Angeles riots of 1992.
The complete sections 1, 2 & 3 (of 4 or 5?) with 52 of 88 pages, very minor central fold wear, nice condition.
