November 19, 1831
NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, Nov. 19, 1831 Within this issue is a brief & rather inconspicuous item reading: "The famous Nat Turner was taken in Southampton county on the 30th ult. His place if concealment was in a cave, not many miles from the theatre of his bloody exploits. He has been tried, found guilty and hung, and his body given to the surgeons."
Among other reports in this issue are: "United States Whale Fishery" "The Imprisoned Missionaries" "Vermont" "Polish Proclamation"
Complete in 16 pages, 6 1/4 by 9 1/2 inches. A small piece is missing in the margin on the page with the Nat Turner article but does not have any loss of text, otherwise is in very nice condition.
As noted in Wikipedia: "Niles edited and published the Weekly Register until 1836, making it into one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States and himself into one of the most influential journalists of his day. Devoted primarily to politics, Niles' Weekly Register is considered an important source for the history of the period."
