THE VENTURA SIGNAL, San Buenaventura, California, July 8, 1876 Page 2 contains a report headed: "Terrible Disaster" "Bloody Indian Battle on the Little Horn River--Gen. Custer and 300 Soldiers Killed".
The report is taken from a scout for Gen. Gibbon who arrived in Salt Lake City from the Little Horn River, portions including:
"Gen. Custer found an Indian camp of 2000 lodges on Little Horn & immediately attacked the camp...in a murderous fire from all directions. The greater portion of them fought on horseback. Custer, his two brothers, nephew & brother-in-law were all killed & not one of his detachment escaped...The seventh cavalry fought like tigers & were overcome by mere brute force. The Indian loss cannot be estimated...The Indians got all the arms of the killed soldiers..." with more (see photos for full report).
Most of the front page is taken up with the: "History of Ventura County".
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, wear & some dirtiness at the margins with minor edge tears, minor loss at the top of the spine.
