Page 5 has a nice article: "The Gold Beds of California--Great Sensation in Washington..." beginning: "All Washington is in a ferment with the news of the immense bed of gold, which, it is said, has been discovered in California. Nothing else is talked about..." with much more, taking a bit over half a column.
This is a very early report on the gold discoveries, which would become more commonplace in 1849.
