WEEKLY AMERICAN, St. Louis, Missouri, July 1, 1847
* Very rare Missouri title
* Mexican War era
A rare opportunity for a very early Missouri newspaper. This is the volume one, number two issue. Rarely have we been able to offer pre-Civil War newspapers from Missouri. Here is one 14 years before the war began.
Some interest Western-related items on page 2 including: "From the Mormon Camp" notes: "...a letter from Brigham Young & the rest of the twelve...at Nauvoo informing them that their services are no longer needed in that capacity & that they can pack up & follow on westward..." (see). Also: "The Indians" "Very Late from California" "Festival of the Jews" noting: "The Jews of New York..consecrating a new synagogue in Wooster Street..." with more (see); "From Fort Leavenworth".
Page 3 has reports on the Mexican War with a full column on: "Important From Mexico--Gen. Scott's Departure from Puebla--No Negotiations for Peace--Withdrawal of Troops from Jalapa..." and more (see). More war news on pages 3 & 4.
Four pages, very nice, clean condition.
