NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Oct. 4, 1845 This newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
An inside page has an article with a small heading: "Temple At Nauvoo" with the content including: "The building of the Mormon Temple under all the troubles...seems to be carried on with a religious enthusiasm...It occupies the highest & most imposing position in Nauvoo, & is built of fine limestone, has 30 pilasters..." with much more descriptive text (see). A nice article on this significant development on the Mormons at Nauvoo, Illinois.
Also, the back page has an article: "Mormon War" which has much good reading as well (see photos).
Other items within this issue include: "The Jews" (see photos), "California" "States Of the Union" "Henry Clay" "The Constitution of Texas" and more.
There is a great article headed: "Captain Fremont's Report" which takes 4 1/2 pages and gives an exceedingly detailed account of his adventures in California, being one of the more detailed accounts of its exploration some 3 years before gold would be discovered there. A great report on the exploration of the West (see for portions).
Sixteen pages, 8 1/2 by 12 inches, great condition.
