THE CONNECTICUT COURANT, Hartford, Connecticut, August 28, 1805 The frontpage of the issue features a report "North-West Coast of America" and begins "By the following communication the doubts, as to the 'benefits' we are to drive from the possession of Louisiana, will be considerably increased. By that 'acquisition' the chance of a dispute with Spain was rendered greater -- and now, from the information of a friend of the purchase, it seems we may be exposed to a difference with Russia -- Yes with Russia! -- Mr. Crowningshield states, as his opinion, that Russia intends to extend settlements on the Western Coast of America, from the North to the Spanish possessions there. Of course the Russians would be our next neighbours on that coast. -- Indeed they might claim, on some pretence, the very territory we might take possession of..." Page two contains a report from Raleigh of "the Special Court held for the trial of certain negroes charged with the poisoning sundry white people:..." which then proceeds to describe the terrible treatment they endured. Other news and advertisements, some which are illustrated, are within this issue.
This untrimmed issue is complete in four pages with some lite foxing, a small hole in the dateline area which goes through the entire issue, otherwise is in good condition.
