May 25, 1843
NATIONAL INTELLINGENCER, Washington D.C., May 25, 1843 The front page of the issue contains quite lengthy article entitled "Smuggling of Slaves" begins with "That American citizens - merchants residing in these United Sates and in our Atlantic cities - are extensively engaged in the capture of black people on the African coast; that vessels for this trade are built, equipped, and manned in many of our principal seaports; that iron manacles and chains for the hands and feet of men, women, and children are made in our foundries for the use of slave dealers;...". A one hundred dollar reward runaway ad is also on the front page. An article entitled "Davy Jones's Locker" is included on the front page as well.  Also within this issue are congressional reports, news of the day and a variety of advertisements.

This is complete in four pages with stray handwriting above the masthead, a few edge tears at the fold lines, otherwise in good condition.
