NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington City, October 3, 1812 Page three contains an article on "the fact of the horrible massacre of the garrison of Chicago our readers will recollect has been already announced... 'Fort Chicago, on the Illinois, was evacuated on the 15th of last month, and the officers and soldiers put to death one mile from the place. Three women and nine children were among the slain; the credulous captain Wells (Indian agent) had his breast cut open and his heart roasted and eaten by the chiefs present...'" Also on the same page are other reports pertaining to Detroit and General Harrison who had arrived near Wayne. Other news is within this issue including an advertisement for a military deserter and two ads for runaways.
This is complete in four pages, slight irregular right margin to the front leaf which does affect the text for about five lines, archival mends on page two, stray handwriting above the masthead. Otherwise in good condition.
