THE INDEPENDENT, New York, September 27, 1849 Page three of this issue contains a headline "The Jews" "One effect of the late (1) commotions in Europe has been to produce a great change both in the political and the mental condition of the Jews. They have been relieved from a vast load of cruel oppression by several governments and their minds have been much more accessible to the light of Christianity...".
Also on page 3 is "Colored Citizens of Connecticut" in which "A convention of citizens of color was held at New Haven on the 13th of this month, to take measures for obtaining a recognition of their rights, especially of the right of suffrage... We have no doubt the sentiments which will go forth from the Convention which assembled yesterday, and which was represented by delegates from every section of the State, will have great influence upon the action of our Legislature."
This is complete in four pages measuring approximately 27.5 x 22 inches, bit of scattered foxing, a slight irregular spine, otherwise in good condition.
