THE NEW YORK JOURNAL & PATRIOTIC REGISTER, Sept. 14, 1791 Page 2 has a lengthy letter by Thomas Paine signed by him in type (see). The back page has an advertisement headed: "BENJAMIN GOMEZ...Has for Sale A General Assortment of Books and Stationary..." with further details. Gomez was the first Jewish bookseller in the United States and this ad is for his shop which just opened in 1791, the year of this newspaper.
