October 15, 1917
THE GLOBE, South Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, October 6, 10, 11, 13, 15, 1917 (a five issue set)
Included are five issues from October, 1917, which cover every game of the 1917 World Series between the Chicago White Sox and the New York Giants. The only game missing is game two - due to the game being played on a Sunday, and The Globe did not publish on Sundays. The series was won by the Chicago Americans (White Sox), which would be the last time they would win a series until 2005. This series featured "Shoeless" Joe Jackson (for the Sox), and the only World Series appearance ever for Jim Thorpe (for the Giants). While his name only appears in the box score for game 5, it is historic non the less.
The issues are believed to be complete, but they are being sold for the World Series content which appeared on the "Sports Extra" as the front page of each issue - printed in red ink. Very striking. All issues are VERY fragile (with edge chipping) and are loose at the spine. The baseball content is in good condition.
