HARPER'S WEEKLY, December 27, 1879 (print only) This is a single leaf full page print taken from this issue of the famous Thomas Nast print containing the first appearance together of the Republican elephant & Democratic donkey. Thomas Nast was the creator of these two famous political symbols making this a very significant print. The caption reads: "Stranger Things Have Happened." This is a genuine leaf from the issue--not a reprint measuring approximately 10.25 x 15.25 inches, with a few archival mends for small edge tears made on the reverse side of the illustration, otherwise in nice condition.
